UPCOMING CLASSES

January 13, 2009 - February 17, 2009

In the Tiger series classes, there is study of how meditation experience is deepened through the cultivation of contentment and simplicity. We will explore the foundational views of the hinayana Buddhist teachings, and meditation in action for daily life. Through understanding the painful conditions and emotions that keep us trapped in habitual patterns, we can open to our inherent goodness and express the qualities of the Tiger: gentleness, appreciation and steadiness.

These teachings are based on the Seven Points Of Mind Training of the 10th century Indian teacher Atisha Dipankara.  Pithy slogans are used as tools for developing openness and skill in helping others. They are as helpful and relevant today as they were 1000 years ago. During the class two practices which will be introduced to the students: a contemplation of the absolute bodhicitta slogans and the practice of tonglen.

The course content explores how we might free our minds from fixating on only one way to understand this material. It also points out the key instructions which are unchanging: how to exchange oneself for others, how to open up, let go, and help others.
