NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
posted 12.4.07 |
Dear Members and Friends of the Shambhala Center of Minneapolis,
We held a community meeting to address our Co-director vacancy and we are pleased to report that after a thoughtful and insightful discussion by all present, we have a plan.
Mia Bolte has agreed to accept the position of Co-director of Communications/Community. She will assume this position in the Spring after stepping down and completing the transition to a new Resident Director of Shambhala Training. She will complete her tenure as Resident Director on Shambhala Day and then will take some time off for practice and contemplation.
In the interim, Katherine Engel has agreed to lead our community communication efforts as Chairperson of the Communication Work Group.
Please offer Mia and Katherine your thanks for their generosity and your support as they take on their new roles.
We also want to thank all the members who attended the meeting and participated in this marvelous exercise in spontaneous insight.
Yours in the Dharma,
Tom Adducci and Mark Lueck
Co-directors

Hello Sangha-
In many of our conversations with community members of late we have heard that people are frustrated with communication at the center particularly with and among leadership. People feel unclear about how various groups are meant to relate, about who to go to for specific needs and about how to address problems they might be having.
In response we are trying two new things.
First, we are making ourselves available on the second and fourth Monday of every month. Anyone can schedule a half-hour appointment between 6:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. to meet with the both of us at the Center. This time will be an opportunity for members to say what's on their minds and for us to listen and problem solve when requested. You can schedule a slot by dropping us an email or talking with us directly. We will schedule on a first come, first served basis.
Second, following sitting on the first Monday of each month we will have a member's only community meeting and social. Again, we hope this will give members an opportunity to genuinely communicate concerns and aspirations as well as an opportunity to celebrate and mine the jewel of sangha. More information will be forthcoming as the first meeting approaches.
Respectfully,
Tom and Mark

To the Shambhala Community,
When Acharya Richard John was here last spring, he gave us a lovely gift of photographs of our founding teacher, Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche and our current teacher, the Sakyong, Mipham Rinpoche. He explained to us that these photos were intended to be placed where we could see them upon entering the center. The visual connection with our teachers is a way to help us realize why we are here and feel welcomed to our practice. The
photos have now been framed and placed on the small table in the Post
Meditation Hall (the space between the entry way and the shrine room). You can't help but notice them when you enter.
This small table is meant to be used for the purpose of displaying the
photos and, as often as possible, a flower arrangement. As a means of
showing respect for our teachers, other items (such as literature or
magazines) will be displayed elsewhere and you are discouraged from usin
the table for registration or other purposes. We will work out other
solutions for those needs. All of our spaces are a work in progress and we
will attempt to update you as things appear, disappear, and we get further
understanding of how to improve our space!
On behalf of the Sacred Environment working group,
Linda Lade
